My 3 Favorite Beers from Artillery Brewing
A new neck of the woods brings new breweries to try. Nestled a few hundred feet away from the main streets of West Chester at 333 Granite Alley is Artillery Brewing Company. While the location is relatively new to town (2021), the founders have been brewing commercially since 2018. Their history, which can be found on their website tells the story of two friends who love good beer, and who embrace the community they brew in. Not a bad foundation to build a brewery on.
This is not something I typically comment on (probably because of my gross lack of qualification), but the branding of Artillery really stuck out to me. The logo, font, color scheme, website, cans, taproom, etc. all tie together and look great. On top of it all, the theme is a great play on the historic community they serve.
Now on to the beer:
#3 - The Crossing | Winter Warmer Ale | 7.5% ABV
Having just brewed a holiday ale myself, I was in the mood to try a good one. The Crossing was great! Pardon my lack of cicerone certification. I can’t really tell you what the flavor notes or core ingredients (maybe some cinnamon and honey?). Either way, It is definitely worth a try, and it is seasonal… so try it soon!
#2 - The Militia | Helles Lager | 4.7% ABV
One of my smaller gripes with craft brewing is the infatuation with IPAs. I like IPAs, I like brewing IPAs, you can get creative with IPAs, but I always get a little sad when I go to a new spot and the menu is almost entirely full of them. Sometimes you just want a crisp, easy to drink beer. I got that with The Militia. Smooth with just enough sweetness; you can have this in the taproom, from the fridge, at the grill, after mowing the lawn, anywhere - what I’m saying is you can enjoy it anywhere (so long as you abide by open container policy/other laws).
#1 - The Fog of War | Hazy IPA | 6.5% ABV
Ignore everything I just said about IPAs. If they taste like The Fog of War, fill the whole taproom with them, fine by me. It is full of fruit aroma and taste, not too bitter, all around a great beer. The below description is pulled right from their website so I do not do the description a disservice:
The Fog of War IPA imbues this same sense of opacity owing to its hefty haze contributed by its hop-induced thick, pineapple aromas and murky golden-orange glow. Brewer's notes: double-dry hopped with Triumph and Azacca to offer sweet orange, pineapple and melon on both nose and palate.
If you’ve been to Artillery and have a top three of your own, sound off in the comments! Or, if you have another spot you think I should try, let me know. Cheers!
